A ridiculously simple game plan for staying connected on the biggest football day—and biggest love day—of the year.

FEBRUARY 14 HAS A SCHEDULING PROBLEM.

Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day says:
Put away your phone. Get dressed up. Be romantic.

Illustration: a couple in matching red sweats cheering at the game on TV, with wings and chips on the coffee table.
The Big Game

The big game says:
Put on sweatpants. Grab the wings. Don’t talk during third down.

This year, couples everywhere face an impossible question:

WHICH ONE WINS?

BOTH.

You don’t need to choose between the game and your relationship.

You just need a game plan.

WE HAD A PROBLEM.

When we realized that Valentine’s Day falls on the same day as the big game this year, we immediately knew that we had a relationship problem.

Nate is obsessed with football. Not “I enjoy watching a game now and then” obsessed. More like showing up to Bronco games with orange pants, a Bo Nix jersey, and stuffed Bronco-head-hat obsessed.

Kaley, well, she could care less.

And neither of us wanted Valentine’s Day to become another relationship negotiation:

Are we going out? When? Are you watching the whole game? Does halftime count as quality time?

So instead of fighting over the day, we decided to design it.

A simple game plan that lets us have the big game, Valentine’s Day, and an actually good day together.

We call it...

LOVE DOESN’T NEED MORE TIME. IT NEEDS BETTER DESIGN.

Most of us keep waiting for life to slow down.

After this deadline.
After the kids get older.
After football season.
After things get less crazy.

But life rarely cooperates.

Great relationships aren't built by finding huge amounts of extra time.

They're built by finding small moments inside the life you're already living and turning them into moments of connection.

That’s the idea behind the Valentine’s Bowl.

And it’s the idea behind our new book.

Busy Love by Kaley Klemp and Nate Klemp.
